In the past 12 months working, having a job, and finding a job has changed….and changed dramatically!
Even if you are on benefits has changed, as there are no face-to-face appointments with a Work Coach these days. Everything is done online.
More and more of us were being made redundant, or placed on furlough, only to find no jobs to go back to. The economy has changed, and we need to change with it.
However, there are a few things that we need to remember in looking for a job, and some are old fashioned.
Get out there! Let people know you are looking for work. More jobs are found by word of mouth, and also the old phrase, “it’s who you know”.
If people don’t know you are seeking work, they cannot help. Networking increases the number of people helping you find work, and the more numbers, the higher the chances of a job.
ABC: Always Be Closing
An old sales saying and technique, ABC, always be closing!
Go for the sale, ask for the job, ask for the sale. Do not just expect or think the job will come to you.
Ask for it….
When do I start?
How do you want me to handle this with a customer?
This tip is similar to ABC, you need to apply for every job you see or want. Safety in numbers. The more applications you have out there, the higher your odds of getting a job.
If you don’t ask, you don’t get.
Apply for any job you may want, if you are offered the job, then you can make the decision as to if you take it or not.
Use The Power of The Force…Internet
Have access to a computer and embrace the technology, which means learn to use video call software, such as Zoom, Team, and other ways to speak and be interviewed virtually.
For mobile phones there is Viber, Whatsapp, and also Apple and Android face time apps.
It is 2021, and with lock downs and all the new safety measures in place, if you want a job, you need to know this technology. Gone are the days of going to an office for an interview. Employers can be more efficient using the Internet and new technology, and you can be as well.
