Question

My father recently died and he had a lot of unpaid bills and debts due to his company. He was the Director of the company and everything was in his name. My sister and I are sorting through his accounts, and while he had a few properties and also some bank accounts with substantial savings, we are unsure how to approach matters. We need some direction as to what to do.

Answer

Hi,

I am sorry to hear of the loss of your father. Having to deal with estate and financial issues at such a time is and can be difficult.

My advice would be to seek out a Solicitor or someone trained in handling estates and get advice from them.

Did your father have a Will, are the properties in just his name, did he assign any of the bank accounts to someone else, were there any other Directors with the company?

As you can see, these are just a few questions to address, and there are more as well.

Speak to someone who handles estate and legal advice.

Regards,

Jon
