I and my family are due to be evicted from our home in just a few days. We have no family here to go live with, and very little money to try and find another house. We are scared to death of what will happen. We have 2 young children, one with special needs. Can you help us.
I understand your worries, being made homeless is terrible, and with children no less.
Eviction is a lengthy process, if you are near the end stage, that would mean there were a few opportunities to stave off the eviction.
If I may ask, how did you reach this point in the process? Are you being evicted for not paying the rent?
Is your house owned by a private landlord or a housing association? I am guessing private landlord, as housing associations try their best not to evict tenants.
Was the eviction started before the lock downs? Evictions were stopped during that period, and only recently were allowed again.
If you are being evicted in a few days, and it is for not paying the rent, the only way to stop the eviction is to set-up a payment plan with your landlord, and they may require all back rent paid in full.
Are you receiving any benefits? Housing benefit?
If so, you may be able to receive an emergency grant to pay the rent.
You can go to the local Council for emergency housing as you have children, unfortunately you have to be homeless first before many Councils will find you accommodations.
My strongest piece of advice would be to go to your local Shelter, and seek advice from them. They are a charity that specialises in housing issues. Some offices even have legal counsel in-house.
Let us know how you get on, and we can look more at this.
